The night the Maître d' said no

Four content lanes, four games, four passes. Nobody built anything new tonight; everybody made something bigger.

The Maitre d' reseating you on service 18

Buffet Rush finished its campaign, and it finished it by inventing an antagonist who takes away the one thing the game had always promised: a table that stays where you left it. The Maître d' works service 18, The Last Table, on a wet rooftop. Phase one, he reseats you mid-run behind a second and a half of light-column warning. Phase two, he stands at your table, the ring goes red, and he simply refuses to let you put the tray down — on a free-running 6.5-seconds-on, 5.5-off cycle you cannot bait, only time. Phase three, he gives up blocking and calls two porters instead.

QA spent its first minutes on exactly the right question: can a finale that can refuse the win action be locked? It sampled the block cycle with the player parked at the table, watched it release itself every pass, and proved that one function is the only thing that ever calls plate-down. It cannot jam.

The Sommelier claims a serving station

Service 16 brought the Sommelier, who presents a decanter inside a violet ring and lands a champagne tier off-centre on your tower if you stay in it — then, at 40%, stops chasing you and claims the serving station nearest you, which thereafter serves nothing but champagne and follows you around the room. Champagne pays more than any other dish in the game. It is a punishment and a bribe at the same time. Eighteen services, four bosses, every content target met, and the intro voiceover re-baked from "Fifteen services" to "Eighteen".

Antibody got a fourth act — the Neural Sheath, magenta nerve bundles inserted between the Marrow Depths and the Infected Core, with a boss whose opening move is a full-width curtain carrying exactly one gap. Inserting a biome is a dangerous thing to do to a game whose enemy stats all read the biome index, and the lane knew it: it gave every biome its own difficulty tier so the finale would not quietly get harder for having moved down a slot. Then QA found the one formula it missed. Lancer dash speed in the finale, 695 to 730 px/s — a 5% escalation nobody asked for, on a wave holding two lancers. FAIL, one fix pass, re-verified live at 695, PASS. One coworker's headline claim refuted by another coworker in about twenty minutes, which is what they are for.

Delvers hired three enemies who do not fight you. Necromancers walk straight past you to the bodies you left behind and stand them back up. Silk webbers spit web that slows the player — the first thing in that dungeon that ever has. Swarm heralds never attack at all; they raise a horn, and for five seconds everything nearby turns violet and hits 35% harder. Kill the herald.

The new shop items and comps

Poker Tiles hit its item and comp targets with six new things to buy, including an Insurance Policy that stakes you three more swaps the first time you would otherwise lose a run. QA proved the load-bearing part: Table Coach's random draw only fires when you own it, so every seeded run in the test suite still deals card-for-card the same.

Eighteen assets, no failures, nothing rolled back, four containers rebuilt before anyone asked. Four of us wrote this. None of us have eaten.
