The last four items land — leave air behind you, throw the hunters a decoy, and breathe slower in the dark.
- Marker Buoy: drop a buoy holding thirty seconds of air and swim back to it later. The long descent finally has a rhythm instead of one unbroken clock — and a buoy lights its own patch of water, so you can find your way home to it. It only starts holding air for you once you have swum away from it.
- Chum Pod: bait that makes every hunting thing in range chase the cloud instead of you. It is not a smoke screen — it pulls in whatever had not noticed you yet, which is either your escape or your problem. One pod in the water at a time.
- Scrubber Core: a cartridge that makes your air last nearly twice as long for forty-five seconds. It runs off the lamp's cell, so the whole time you are breathing slow you are seeing short.
- Supply Drum: an old expedition's stores, and the only thing down there that puts a buoy, a pod or a flare back in your kit. Crack one and the smell brings the neighbourhood for five seconds.
- On a phone all your throwables now share one button, with a small dial to pick between them — so the buoy and the pod are fully playable with two thumbs.
- The dock reflows on smaller screens, so every upgrade stays comfortably tappable.

Five new creatures move into the trench — one for every depth, each with its own tell and its own answer.
- The shallows finally have something with teeth: the spearfin hangs high above you, flares its sail, and spears straight down a line it has already locked. Slide sideways — it commits to where you were, not where you are.
- Duskfangs hunt in threes and think as one. They ring you and send exactly one runner at a time, so watch for the one that goes still and lights up its jaw — the hole it leaves in the circle is your way out.
- Not everything glowing in the midnight is salvage. The lantern mimic sits perfectly still and shines like a pearl; up close you can see the rim of shell around the light, and a sonar ping calls it red. Read it right and it pays better than the pearl it copied.
- Rock grazers crawl the trench walls and want nothing to do with you until you crowd them. Then they spit the rock back out, and the silt hangs in the shaft for over a minute — your lamp cannot reach through it and your props cannot hurry in it. Kill one and it empties its gut into the water you still have to climb through.
- In the deep, lumen moths hunt light rather than meat. They smell your lamp, and a flare, a sonar ping or a lantern pearl in the hold makes you twice as loud. They will drink your beam down until they are full — outrun them, wait them out, or spend a torpedo on the cloud.
- Nine new sounds for the new arrivals, and the hull-condition warnings now stack instead of stepping on each other when the cold, the silt and the dark all arrive at once.

The Twilight now has something in it you cannot see — THE HOLLOW, a glass-bodied light-eater on a dead diver's boat, plus four new pieces of salvage that give back ammo, hull and light.
- A fourth boss, THE HOLLOW, waits around a derelict submersible between 1000m and 1450m. Its body is glass: your lamp goes straight through it, and so do your torpedoes. It can only be hurt while the water it is in is lit.
- Light it however you can — pop a flare, ping the sonar, or fire into the dark and read the flash of your own torpedo. Best of all, wait: when it opens up and drinks your lamp, the stolen light shows inside it, and that is your window.
- It drinks your light as it comes. The closer it gets, the less of the abyss you can see, and at half health it takes the derelict's beacon too and leaves you as the only lamp down there.
- The dead boat arms you before the fight starts: its torpedo racks float clear of the hull, outside the range that wakes the thing feeding on it. Its cargo bay only opens when the Hollow breaks.
- New salvage: munitions caches put torpedoes back in the bay mid-dive, hull sealant patches a breach, lumen cells rack a flare, and lantern pearls are the richest thing loose in the trench — they light your hull for free, and everything down there can see you coming.

Bursts now punch light into the dark — a kill genuinely lights the water around it for a moment — and the sub kicks with every impact.
- All seven kinds of burst now cut a hole in the darkness for about four tenths of a second, so a kill briefly lights its own surroundings.
- There is a hard cap on how much light bursts can give you at once, pinned by tests, so this can never become a free lamp.
- Impacts shove the view in the direction of the blow and ring down, at all fifteen places the game registers one.
- A kill holds the body on screen for a seventh of a second so that even one-shot kills flash before they go.
- Picking something up implodes a golden ring into the carried counter with a floating amount, and an angry creature reddens the rim of the screen and thickens the motes around you.
- Rendered at your display's true pixel density, with a frame-rate governor that steps back automatically if a machine cannot keep up.
- Wall layouts, targets, sub size and the lamp economy are unchanged.

A third boss now waits in the Trench — the Warden, a wall-serpent sealed into the rock around a vault it will not let you open.
- Somewhere between 2750m and 3250m there is now a stone door in the trench wall, held by three glowing seals. There is nothing to steal from it. The only way in is through the thing coiled in the rock behind it.
- The Warden never swims. It travels inside the wall where nothing can touch it, splits the rock when it is ready, and throws itself across the shaft at you — and the line it has committed to is drawn across the water before it comes, so getting off that line is on you.
- It can only be hurt in the moment it bites into the far wall and holds there with its body strung across the shaft. Torpedoes spark off its armoured flank, so you have to get onto the head's side of it first.
- Three stages of fight: it comes back faster and starts shaking rock loose from the walls above you, and when it is nearly finished it stops going home at all and simply hangs across the shaft, sweeping.
- Kill it and the seals give: the door grinds open and the vault spills relics, ancient coins and a cargo crate into the water, on top of the bounty.
- Seven new sounds for the fight, from the grinding of something huge moving through stone to the moment the vault finally opens.

The sub had a second, phantom lamp pointing permanently forwards. It is gone, and the water above you now bends the light.
- Removed a leftover lamp beam that pointed dead ahead no matter which way you were aiming — a remnant from before the twin-stick controls arrived. Your real aimed light cone is untouched, so you can see exactly as far as you could before.
- The water now warps and shifts what lies behind it, with caustics playing across the backdrop. It fades out with depth and never touches the things you are actually steering around.
- There is an option to switch the new water effect off.

THE VOID is now a place of its own — the rock shears into crystal, and something down there breathes in.
- Below 3400 metres the trench walls stop meandering and shear into crystal: flat facet planes meeting at hard angles, lit by your lamp, glinting at every corner. The Void shaft is tighter, asymmetric and genuinely harder to fly than the trench above it.
- New hazard, the cold seep — the hydrothermal vent's opposite number. A vent erupts and shoves you off it. A seep rests, shivers a warning, then inhales: it drags you toward its mouth and puts ice on your hull.
- Ice costs you thrust and top speed, and once it's in the plates it starts eating the hull. Swimming clear sheds it immediately, so getting out is always the answer — but the seep's rest phase is your only window, and the cold keeps its treasure right inside the pull.
- Arriving in the Void now announces itself, with a crystalline groan and a colder, darker water.
- Three new sounds for the deep, and a new frost warning on your display so you can see the cold taking hold even with the lamp pointed elsewhere.
- The base campaign above 3400 metres is completely unchanged.

A second boss now guards the Midnight dark — and three new pieces of kit change how you dive.
- THE BROODMOTHER: a giant anglerfish matriarch nests in the Midnight wall between 1800 and 2400 metres, guarding the richest cache in the trench. She never leaves her lair and she never follows you up, so taking her on is entirely your choice.
- She fights in two phases: watch her lure flare white, because that is the instant before she commits to a charge — and at half health she shrieks and the nest hatches around you. Unlike the Guardian, she can be killed.
- BALLAST lets you flood tanks and drop to working depth far faster, without making the sub any twitchier once you are down there.
- FLARE RACK gives you a burst of daylight on demand, refilled free at the dock. GRAPPLE CLAW reels salvage in from a distance, so you can take the prize without swimming into whatever is sitting on it.
- Three new things to find: glowing spore clusters in the shallows that swell your lamp, heavy cargo crates that pay well but slow you down until you surface, and ancient coin stacks deep in the trench.
- The shop no longer pushes the DIVE button off the bottom of shorter windows.

The trench just got three new things that can catch you — a fleeing shoal, an ambush predator hiding on the walls, and something in the deepest dark that isn't always there.
- A schooling shoal of krill now drifts through the shallow and twilight waters — mostly harmless, but it scatters (and pays out) if you put a torpedo through it.
- A new trench crab lurks camouflaged against the cave walls from Midnight depth down — stay clear of the walls or it will lunge out at you.
- A new predator only appears in the Void, the deepest zone reached through New Game+: it's nearly invisible until it decloaks and charges — hunting one down pays the richest bounty in the game.
- Two new underwater sound effects accompany the crab's claw-snap and the Void predator's decloak.

One tap now skips a whole cutscene on a phone — plus a round of under-the-hood tidying that leaves the diving untouched.
- Cutscenes now show a Skip button in the top corner. One tap ends the whole opening or ending, where before it took about eleven taps to get through it.
- The Skip button works in both the opening cinematic and the victory ending, and on a controller the Start button does the same thing.
- Grew the automated test suite from 75 to 137 checks, covering saved games, upgrade prices and how the trench is generated, so future updates are less likely to break your expedition.
- Added an automated code checker to the project and cleared out an unused leftover reference in the diving code.
- Moved some drawing code into its own file to make the game easier to work on. The lamp cone, oxygen and hull bars and pearl glows all render exactly as before.
- Apart from the new Skip button, gameplay, controls, balance, visuals and audio are completely untouched.

Abyss Diver now plays on a phone — thumb-steered diving, tappable dock and menus, and a shop you can actually reach.
- Play the whole game on a phone: hold it sideways and your thumb anywhere on the screen becomes the sub's controls, with FIRE and SONAR buttons under your right hand and a pause button under your left.
- The sub now aims where it swims on touch — the lamp beam and your torpedoes point wherever you push, and the heading stays put when you lift your thumb, so you can line up a shot and then fire.
- Fixed: on a phone-sized screen the surface dock ran off the bottom of the display, so the DIVE button and the sonar upgrade were unreachable. The shop now lays out in two columns and everything fits.
- Fixed: the “start a new expedition?” warning could only be answered with a keyboard. It now has proper YES and CANCEL buttons.
- Pause, mute and volume are all reachable mid-dive with a tap, and every on-screen control hint now switches between keyboard, controller and touch depending on what you last used.
- Menus, the pause card and the ending screens were retuned so nothing gets clipped on a short screen. Desktop play is exactly as it was.

Added quiet, privacy-safe gameplay analytics (run starts, progress milestones, deaths, and wins) so the studio can see how players actually experience the game.
- The studio can now see how each expedition really goes — how deep dives reach, when hulls are crushed or air runs out, and when the Heart is finally raised — so future updates target what actually happens down there.

The victory screen is now a full cinematic — surface from the trench at dawn with your prize, narrated end to end.
- Winning the expedition now plays a real animated cutscene: your sub climbs out of the black with the raised artifact glowing aboard, the water brightens from ink to gold, and you break the surface into a calm dawn — narrated by the same deep voice as the intro.
- The win cinematic is fully skippable and works on controller as well as keyboard/mouse, and honours your mute setting.
- After the cutscene you land on the same results screen, so New Game Plus and returning to the surface work exactly as before.
- Repainted the submarine's markings on the title screen: the old real-agency-style roundel and hull text are gone, replaced with an original deep-sea insignia.

Closed out two housekeeping tickets — a debug console surface that could silently rewrite save data, and a missing favicon.
- Fixed a developer debug tool that, despite its label, could let someone edit save data (bank, upgrades) from the browser console and have it stick — it's now a locked snapshot that can't leak back into your save.
- Added a favicon so the game no longer shows a broken-icon request in the browser tab.
- No gameplay, visuals, audio, or save behavior changed — this was a code-health-only pass.

The abyss went dark, the lamp became a real beam, and you now hunt sharks with torpedoes — plus a spooky voiced intro, and a controller fix that makes it all playable.
- The deep is genuinely dark now. Your lamp throws a directional cone of light wherever you aim, and its reach dies fast below 100m — Lamp upgrades are how you buy your way back out of the black.
- Torpedoes and twin-stick controls: steer with one stick, aim your lamp and fire with the other. Ammo is limited per dive, and the Warhead upgrade makes each shot bite harder.
- Sharks now patrol the trench and hunt you once they catch your scent. Torpedo one for a real bounty. You can torpedo the little fish too, but they pay a pittance — it is a waste of a shot.
- Everything you catch becomes salvage you spend at the dock, and the shop has grown to seven upgrade tracks, each with its own icon so you can tell them apart at a glance.
- A new cinematic opening: an animated descent into the trench with narration, and something enormous waking up beneath you. Skippable, and muting the game mutes the voice too.
- Fixed a controller bug where skipping the intro could bounce you back to the menu in a loop, or silently spend your salvage on an upgrade you never chose.
7 July 2026ImprovementClaude Opus 4.8
Beating the game is no longer the end — raise the Heart and the abyss reopens deeper, again and again.
- Added New Game Plus: after you raise the Heart, you can descend into a deeper, darker run instead of stopping — the trench floor drops another 400 meters each time
- Each deeper run opens a brand-new zone, The Void, and a new treasure to recover, from the Drowned Crown down to the Sunken Throne and beyond
- Deeper runs pay out richer salvage but pack more hazards and a faster, hungrier Leviathan, so the challenge keeps climbing
- Your upgrades and bank carry into every New Game Plus, so descending deeper is a fresh gauntlet, not a grind back from scratch
- The menu, dock and dive HUD now track how deep you've pushed and how many artifacts you've raised
6 July 2026ImprovementClaude Opus 4.8
Abyss Diver now plays fully on a game controller, from the surface dock to the trench floor.
- Full controller support: steer your submersible with the left stick or D-pad, fire sonar with A or X, pause with Start, and mute with Select - no keyboard needed
- Every screen is controller-friendly: the title, dock shop, options, intro, pause, and the death and win screens all respond to your gamepad
- On-screen control hints now switch between keyboard and controller instantly depending on what you last touched, so the prompts always match your hands
- Plug or unplug a controller anytime and a glowing notice appears; unplugging mid-dive safely pauses the game so a dropped pad cannot sink you

A real endgame: the LEVIATHAN now hunts your ascent after the Heart grab, plus vent set pieces and a friendlier economy.
- Added the LEVIATHAN — a boss that surges from beneath the shrine when you grab the Heart and chases the ascent with homing lunges, contact knockback and a HUD threat bar
- Added hydrothermal-vent set pieces with eruption hazards and relic caches
- Retuned the economy: gentler over-depth pressure, ~90s base oxygen, hull level 3 covers the 3400m floor, cheaper upgrades and a stronger engine
- Added a synthesized WebAudio depth drone
- Fixed ESC-skipping the intro on a fresh save landing on the menu instead of the dock
