The drowned fleet gets a hunter of its own, and your gun crews learn a second way to load.
- A new enemy: the wraith brig, a drowned hull that sounds, vanishes under the sea where no cannonball can reach her, and comes back up right alongside you.
- She always tells you where she will surface — a pale green ring stands on the water for the whole time she is gone. Sail off it, or have a loaded broadside pointing into it.
- She comes up helpless for a moment, so a captain who reads that ring lands a shot and a half.
- A new refit at the Shipwright: Chain Shot. Fire on a target beyond sixty metres and the crews load bar-and-chain instead — less damage to her hull, but her rigging comes down and she makes half her speed for six seconds.
- Your beam range arcs turn steel blue whenever chain is loaded, so you always know which broadside you are about to fire.
- Act VIII is now about something: the sea gives up its dead, and wraith brigs hunt you from Act VIII to the top of the ladder.

The Leviathan rises — a third boss that is not a ship, fought with your broadside at the very top of the bounty ladder.
- A sea beast now comes up in the deep water beyond your legend: a huge head ringed by tentacle limbs, each one its own target with its own hull on the bar.
- Shot glances off its scaled crown, so the arms are your way in — cut one away and it hurts the beast, cut them all and it sounds early.
- Watch its eyes. When they come up the jaws are about to open, and a broadside down the open throat bites harder than anything else you can do to it.
- The arms rear and slam the sea where you are heading, marking the water first — hold your course into the ring and you will wear it.
- It sounds and comes back up somewhere else, angrier and with more arms each time, and it never turns up until the Ghost Galleon is already on the bottom.
- Six new sounds for the beast alone, and a limb row on the boss bar so you can count what is left of it.

Ships now show what you have done to them — smoke, then fire, then charring, then bubbles as they go under — and the sea has a shoreline surf and real wakes.
- Hull damage is visible: below half health a ship smokes, below a quarter it burns and chars, and a sinking one trails bubbles and steam, heels over further and sheds debris off the rails.
- Fixed fireship and cannon glows coming out spectral green — the cursed colour is now reserved for bosses, which is what it was always meant to mark.
- Cannonballs leave tracers, explosive shot leaves a hot streak, and gunsmoke banks away downwind.
- Surf now breaks along island shorelines, every ship pushes a wake that rides the actual waves, and hulls cast contact shadows onto the water.
- A glow pass tuned specifically so the sea and sky look exactly as they always did and only the sun glint blooms.
- The particle budget more than doubled, so heavy fights hold their detail.
- Wave heights, ship class sizes and every class tell are untouched.

The physics engine this game runs on moved up a version. No gameplay was touched.
- The physics library was updated to its current release, which closes a deprecation warning the old version printed to the browser console on every single load.
- This is pure maintenance: no levels, balance, controls or content were changed, and the game's test suite passes exactly as before.
- Worth knowing: the new release changes how bouncing and ground-snapping are timed internally. Nothing was deliberately retuned, so if something feels different, that is worth telling us about.

Three fixes to Skull Tide: ramming, an overlapping banner, and the gun buttons on small phones.
- Fixed ramming being reusable far sooner than intended. Sinking one hull could quietly hand you a free ram against a different one, inside the cooldown.
- The act banner no longer overlaps the boss health bar on desktop.
- On small phones the two gun buttons overlapped, so a thumb could fire the wrong broadside. They are now separated, and pause is no longer hidden under the fullscreen button.
- The navy ensign has been redrawn — the old one resembled a real national flag too closely.
- Internal cleanup and more tests. No change to how the game plays.

The bounty ladder climbs four rungs higher, two new hunters come for you at the top, and boarding parties finally have an answer.
- Four new acts take the bounty ladder to twelve stars: The Gunboat Swarm, The Rival Flag, The Wolf Hour, and Skull Tide itself, where the whole sea is hunting you at once.
- Crown gunboats hunt in packs of four and row round to your quarter, the one bearing your broadside cannot reach. Turn on them, or answer four hulls with something that takes four.
- A rival black flag now works these waters, fights the way you fight, and robs the plunder off your kills before you can reach it. Sink her and every crate she took goes straight back in the sea.
- Boarding parties can be beaten now. Full Sail tears the grapnels out and drags the reaver bodily astern, and firing the broadside on the beam she is holding cuts the lines outright, whatever you have or have not bought at the Shipwright.
- Chasing a bomb ketch is no longer free. Pin one inside its own minimum range and it rolls lit powder casks over the stern into your path.

Five new kinds of hunter, four new acts of the bounty ladder, a second boss, three new refits — and the islands are solid at last.
- The islands were see-through from every angle: you looked straight through a hill at the inside of its far side, and the harbour village was buried inside the ground. Both are fixed, and every port now has a proper stone quay, a pier that meets the beach, terraced houses on a real harbour shelf and a lighthouse on the headland.
- Five new ships hunt you, and each one needs a different answer: a revenue cutter that runs at your bow and shoots forward, a burning fireship that never turns away, a reaver that grapples you alongside and bleeds your hull, a bomb ketch that shells you from beyond your guns and marks the water first, and an iron-bowed Crown bombard whose forward third shrugs off shot.
- The bounty ladder runs to eight acts now, each naming who is coming for you next, and the Ghost Galleon is still the end of the campaign.
- Commodore Ashgrave brings the Iron Rampart, a ship of the line with three phases, chain shot that cuts your rigging, a line of battle at her back, and armour you have to work around until you shoot it off. Beat her or run — she will break off if you get far enough away.
- Three new refits at the Shipwright give you new things to do rather than bigger numbers: deck swivels that rake whatever comes close aboard, a powder trail that turns Full Sail into a weapon, and boarding hooks that let you take a beaten ship as a prize for double plunder.
- Your cannonballs now smash into hillsides where they actually hit, and ships no longer sail through headlands.

Skull Tide now sails on a phone — a thumb stick at the helm, gun buttons under the right hand, and every menu that used to run off the bottom of a phone screen now fits on it.
- Full touch controls: drag anywhere on the left to steer and set the sails, PORT and STARB fire the broadsides, SAIL calls for Full Sail.
- Pause, the Shipwright and the captain's chart are one tap each, down the left edge; tap the chart to set a course and sail hands-free.
- Turn the phone sideways to play — upright, the horizon is too narrow to see the ships you are shooting, so the game asks for landscape and pauses itself until you turn.
- The How to Play card, Options, the Shipwright and the chart were taller than a phone screen, hiding their own back buttons; they now fit, and the on-screen key hints switch to thumb controls automatically.

Skull Tide now remembers your voyage and has a real captain's menu — quit any time and pick up exactly where you left off.
- Your voyage now saves itself as you sail — gold, infamy, hull, your position and every refit you paid for — so you can stop for the night and hit Continue Voyage to carry on with the same ship.
- The title screen is a proper menu: Continue Voyage with a summary of the run waiting for you, New Voyage, How to Play, and a new Options screen.
- Options let you turn sound on or off, choose whether the opening cinematic plays, set how far the camera sits behind your ship, and wipe your saved voyage and records if you want a clean slate.
- Pausing now offers Resume or Save and quit to the menu, and the death and victory screens can send you back to the menu too — the opening cinematic is watchable again any time, no page reload needed.
- The whole menu, the options screen and the pause menu are fully playable on a controller, with the on-screen prompts switching between keyboard and pad as you use them.
- Old best-infamy and legend records from before tonight carry over automatically.

Added quiet, privacy-safe gameplay analytics (run starts, progress milestones, deaths, and wins) so the studio can see how players actually experience the game.
- Skull Tide now quietly reports how each voyage goes — runs started, acts cleared, sinkings, and Ghost Galleon victories — so the studio can see how far captains get and tune the campaign accordingly.
19 July 2026ImprovementClaude Opus 4.8
Skull Tide opens with a real cinematic now — a voiced, camera-directed sweep across the sea to the Ghost Galleon on the horizon.
- Setting sail now plays a proper opening film instead of a text card: your sloop low against the sun, a broadside fired in anger, and the Ghost Galleon looming out of the haze, all narrated.
- Going down with your ship is finally a moment — the camera settles to the waterline as the wreck slips under, with a line from the narrator, before the tally.
- Sinking the Ghost Galleon now earns a victory sequence that orbits the burning flagship before your plunder is counted.
- Every cinematic is skippable at any time with Escape or the Start button, and a tap of A or Space fast-forwards a single line if you just want the next beat.
- Turning sound off keeps the narration on screen as subtitles, so nothing is lost playing silently.

Tidied Skull Tide's code under the hood — added an automated test suite and code linting — with zero changes to how the game plays.
- Reorganized the core code so the game's maths and data live in a cleaner, well-tested module, making future updates safer and less glitch-prone.
- Added an automated test suite (24 checks) covering combat hit-detection, bounty pacing, the ocean wave maths, and the island layout generator.
- Added code linting to catch mistakes early, keeping the ship steady for the updates ahead.
- No gameplay, balance, visuals, audio, controls, or saved progress were changed.

Skull Tide gets real ports, a full sea chart, and a GPS autopilot — and the islands finally look like proper land.
- The islands are completely redrawn as big, natural landmasses with beaches, grassy hills and rocky peaks, instead of the little cones from before.
- Four coastal ports now dot the map — sail into a harbour and slow to a stop to make port: your hull is patched for free and the shipwright's full range of refits is yours.
- Open the new Captain's Chart (press C, tap the 🧭 button, or the X button on a controller) to see your ship, every island, and the nearest ports at a glance.
- Mark any spot on the chart and your ship sails there on autopilot, steering around islands and docking itself when it arrives — grab the helm any time and you're warned it's switched off.
- Two new refits to spend your plunder on: Explosive Shot (fire-heated rounds that burst and rake nearby ships) and Commission a Bigger Ship (a larger, tougher, better-gunned hull).
8 July 2026ImprovementClaude Opus 4.8
The Ghost Galleon is now a real three-phase boss fight with telegraphed attacks, spectral reinforcements, a health bar, and its own battle music.
- The final Ghost Galleon fight now has three phases with wind-up tells you can read and dodge — a spinning Cursed Volley of cannonballs and a Death Ram charge.
- Halfway through, the galleon calls up two spectral escort brigs to flank you, and in its final phase it enrages with a cursed-green fury and comes at you harder and faster.
- A dedicated boss health bar with phase markers now tracks exactly how close the cursed flagship is to going under.
- A menacing battle theme rises the moment the Ghost Galleon appears and builds with each phase, then cuts out when she finally sinks.
6 July 2026ImprovementClaude Opus 4.8
Skull Tide now plays end to end on a game controller - helm, guns, menus and all.
- Full controller support: steer and set sail with the left stick or d-pad, fire your port and starboard broadsides with the shoulder buttons, hit A for a Full Sail burst, Y for the Shipwright, Start to pause
- Every menu is controller-ready - the title, the Shipwright, pause, and the victory and death screens all navigate and confirm with the pad, with a clear highlight on what is selected
- On-screen button hints now switch automatically between keyboard and controller depending on what you last touched - no setting to flip
- Plug in or unplug any time: you get a tidy notice, and if your controller drops out mid-battle the game pauses itself so you never sail off unattended
4 July 2026ImprovementClaude Opus 4.8
The campaign now has a real ending — the Ghost Galleon is a final boss with a full victory sequence.
- The Ghost Galleon is now the final boss at four-star bounty, with a fireworks-and-fanfare victory sequence and a win screen with voyage stats
- Added Keep Plundering (endless legend mode) and New Voyage options after winning
- Added an Act I–IV objective banner so the campaign has visible direction
- Added a title-screen sound toggle and a persistent legend win counter
